I’m a computational biologist focused on analyzing genomic evolution and advancing precision medicine using bioinformatics and long-read sequencing technologies.
I studied the Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Málaga, where I conducted research on viral evolution in the Department of Cell Biology, Genetics and Physiology. An international cooperation grant enabled me to undertake scientific volunteering at the Biosafety Agency of the Galápagos Islands, where I worked on molecular identification projects. My Bachelor’s Final Project focused on analyzing the evolution and structure of two key proteins in the coronavirus replication and transcription complex for the design of pseudoligands to interrupt human coronavirus infection. This work was validated against SARS-CoV-2 in cell culture, as published here, demonstrating its potential across the coronavirus family.
I then moved to Madrid and completed the MSc in Bioinformatics and Data Science in Personalized Precision Medicine and Healthcare at the Carlos III Institute of Health, supported by a Foundation Instituto Roche grant.
Since 2024, I have been a member of the Bioinformatics Unit at CNIO, where I focus on cancer genomics. I began my Master’s thesis developing benchmarks for structural variant calling tools in cancer genomes using synthetic long-read sequencing data.. I subsequently continued as a bioinformatician, developing pipelines and analyzing long-read nanopore sequencing data from multiple myeloma patients. In parallel, I completed a second Master’s degree in Precision Human Genomics. In 2026, I signed a predoctoral research training contract (FPI) to develop computational methods for tumour evolutionary analysis using long-read sequencing.
